时间进入1980年，这一年，林子祥爆发性的连带着两首歌杀入Top Ten榜单。《分分钟需要你》和《在水中央》都是至今历久不衰的金曲，尤其是前者，我一直很喜欢。林子祥是香港比较少见的全能歌手，不单是能创作，更能创作歌唱不同风格的曲目，现在没事还跟老婆叶倩文出来开开演唱会，做点现场秀什么的。
影视主题曲依然是1980年的主力，十首歌中，七首歌是影视剧主题曲。包括什么《上海滩》、《京华春梦》、《亲情》什么的。那个时代，一部电视剧深入人心，它的主题曲也会红起来；主题曲好听，更能拉升电影票房、电视剧收视率。
创作方面，除了林子祥的两首创作外，依然是顾嘉辉、黄霑、郑国江、卢国沾的天下，至少到现在来看，香港流行乐并没有新人的强势插入，更加没有明星的诞生，这也给未来张国荣、谭咏麟争霸提供了相当大的空间。
