1985年开始，十大中文金曲的歌手，我是越来越熟悉了……至少不会出现从未听说过的情况了。年度最佳唱片设计属于林子祥的《十分十二寸》，依然是手绘风格的。那时候的人是多么爱这种风格啊。
该年度十大中文金曲，有两个人要重点说说：许冠杰和张学友。许冠杰不但拿下一首金曲，更获得了金针奖。而张学友首次杀入十大，还拿下了最佳新人金奖。两代歌神在同一年度分获重要奖项，或多或少有着一种传承的意思。
即便张学友从1985年开始，逐步统一歌坛，但是当时的香港乐坛还是谭张梅的天下——许冠杰，已经不care歌坛了，拍电影随便拉出一首主题曲就足够了。谭校长两首歌进入十大，还是有些优势的。
林子祥也是比较强势的，不但凭借改编一首老歌进入十大，还串烧了诸多经典歌曲，编曲成了《十分十二寸》，这也给后来古巨基那两首《劲歌金曲》树立了一个榜样。
小凤姐的《顺流，逆流》同样也是传唱度极高的金曲，小时候买的众多宝丽金金曲卡带里，几乎都收着这首歌。
翻唱依然当时的主流，尤其是日系的曲子，好像彼时不学习日本流行歌，就要被淘汰了似的。词作人方面，有两潘的比拼，林振强助力许冠杰，向雪怀两曲入围，蔡国权默默耕耘，多方的融合，隐隐有取代黄霑、郑国江等人的趋势。
