中国历史嘛，有时被国外历史学者分为第一帝国，第二帝国，第三帝国。第一帝国是强汉，第二帝国是盛唐，富宋么，勉强算是半个了。而文化思想最蓬勃的时期，一个是春秋战国，一个是魏晋南北朝了。
春秋战国，大体上来说是从公元前770年到公元前221年，文景之治加武帝盛世，大概是公元前180年到公元前87年。魏晋南北朝其实应该从公元200年官渡之战算起到581年。贞观之治到安史之乱是626年到755年。
春秋战国，给中国未来两千年的文化做了一个基调，所谓百家争鸣，魏晋南北朝清谈之风加民族融合，丰富了思想界及文化界的内容。这两个文化的高潮，带来了其后百年的盛世。而其后，五代十国宋明清，都未能出现文化思想界的大冲撞，大激活。宋羸弱不堪，明扼杀资本萌芽，清则闭关锁国，造成了近百年的落后。
回头看近代，1915年新文化运动开始，新一轮文化思想的冲撞开始，如果说春秋战国是各流派间的融合，魏晋南北朝是民族间的融合，那么新文化运动，基本上是已经成型的中西方文化的融合。三教九流的融合，用了500多年，民族间的融合，用了将近400年。考虑到信息的传播速度已经生产力的发展，中西方文化的融合，大概得100年左右，但是由于中间出现了一定的断档，比如新中国成立初期的被孤立，十年浩劫的破坏，基本倒退了50年，所以还得多进行半世纪的交汇。根据前两个盛世的出现，可以预计，本天朝大约在本世纪末，实现所谓的“伟大复兴”。
