1982年，香港发生了几件大事情，先是第25任港督麦理浩卸任，他干过什么，自行查阅维基，至少两件事足以令他载入史册：十年建屋计划和创立ICAC。接着，铁娘子访华，赵紫阳表示中国政府要收回香港，但不会影响香港繁荣安定。随后，中国人大副委员长廖承志接见香港中华厂商联合会代表时指出，中国政府将不迟于1997年收回香港，并保证1997年后“港人治港”、保持香港安定繁荣及香港市民生活方式不变。这三件事先后发生，一定程度上影响着港人对于归属感的认同。所以，这一年的十大金曲里边，有两首歌谈到“中国人”，一个是张明敏的《我是中国人》，一个是汪明荃的《勇敢的中国人》。所以说，流行音乐直接反映的当时社会的情绪。
看1982年的十大金曲，会令人有点抓狂，顾嘉辉和黄霑的组合，占据了十之五，郑国江抢了两首词。当时的香港乐坛，很难在创作界看到什么新鲜血液的进入。影视歌曲依然是大头，就是顾/黄组合的那五首。比起前一年来，1982年的十大金曲榜单趋势上基本上没有变化，金曲还是靠影视剧流行民间。
从传唱度来说，《两忘烟水里》无疑是十首里边最高的。即便很多人都不记得这首歌是梁家仁版《天龙八部》的主题曲了。此外，陈百强的《涟漪》和谭校长翻唱的《雨丝·情愁》也颇受欢迎。
